Taser introduction by ACC Haward

ACC HawardACC Chris Haward is responsible for the Operational Support team which includes Roads Policing, Task Force and the Armed Response Unit - all of whom use Taser.

"Welcome to the Taser webpages. You will find all the information, advice and guidance you need about what Taser is, how it works, when it can be used and the effect it might have on people.

Taser is a vital tool for the police in helping to keep you safe but it is not used without appropriate thought and consideration to the consequences of its use. Officers are trained to use the National Decision Model (NDM) to assess threat and risk and the best course of action to deal with this. Taser is just one option they have available when making this decision.

These pages are designed to give transparency to our use of Taser in Derbyshire, how we train our officers, when and how Taser might be used and the care provided once this has happened. We also monitor and review every single use of Taser to ensure officers are deploying it reasonably and only when justified.

Thank you for taking the time to read through the information provided and I hope it has given you the assurances and confidence you would expect in how Derbyshire Constabulary use and deploy Taser."
