Message from Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Haward
The Employer Supported Policing (ESP) scheme applies to existing and future Special Constables and Police Support Volunteers (PSVs) across the county of Derbyshire. By supporting the Special Constabulary businesses will benefit from their staff receiving bespoke training and development to become warranted police officers. They will learn about conflict resolution, decision making, communication skills and dealing with crisis. Individuals develop skills which can be used in the work place to help their personal and professional development. Working with our local businesses and organisations we can help prevent and reduce crime, protect vulnerable people, provide reassurance and deliver value for money for the people of Derbyshire. Through ESP businesses can also help the police service build resilience and capability when responding to crisis and catastrophic events whether these are natural events such as flooding or criminal/terrorist attacks.
Derbyshire Constabulary itself supports ESP and many of our existing staff volunteer to help our communities. We also support volunteering outside the policing world where there is a clear public reassurance, benefit and/or safety focus to the work they are undertaking. We have seen these members of staff grow and develop and many have taken up more senior positions in the organisation.
The partnership between the public and the police is critical to the success of British policing and businesses can play a huge part in this success through Employer Supported Policing.
