Varied. Exciting. Rewarding.
All words associated with a career within Derbyshire Constabulary.
Whether you join us as a police officer, Special, volunteer or member of our police staff, you‘ll step into an environment which can be demanding but extremely satisfying.
Our staff work hard, and that’s why we reward them with a wide-ranging set of benefits, which include:
We understand that not everyone can sign up to a nine-to-five role, so that’s why we encourage flexible working*; helping employees balance their working life with commitments and interests outside of work.
As a parent juggling the demands of work and home, you’ll know how important it is to manage your budgets. With our childcare voucher scheme, employees can take advantage of tax and national insurance savings which help towards the cost of childcare.
In recognition of all the hard work and effort by all our staff, we make sure they’re equally rewarded with time off; with police officers receiving 22 days holiday, rising to 30 days depending on length of service, and our police staff receiving 24 days holiday, rising to 32 depending on their grade and length of service.
Sports and social facilities
With Derbyshire Constabulary Sports Club, there's so much variety and so many opportunities to keep fit and meet new people. You could take up the challenge of a round of golf, climb the highest mountain, dive to the bottom of the ocean, set sail, ski the slopes, run a marathon or hit 180 on the dartboard; there really is something for everyone. And, with fitness suites based at most divisional headquarters and at force headquarters, it’s easy to stay active.
We feel it’s important for our staff to feel valued and motivated, so that’s why we recognise the outstanding performers within the organisation at award ceremonies held throughout the year.
At most of the locations throughout Derbyshire, we offer free on-site parking. For those looking for centrally-located roles, our force headquarters is also conveniently located in the heart of Derbyshire with access to many major routes and the M1.
All of our employees are entitled to a free eye examination with our selected provider, and in the event you should need glasses we provide a generous contribution towards these.
Training and career development
As with any diverse workplace, our training programmes are varied with a mixture of work-based training and internal and external courses to keep you developing as an individual.
Both our police officers and police staff have the opportunity to join one of our pension schemes. As a member of our police staff you can join the Local Government Pension Scheme, which is one of the largest public sector pension schemes in the UK with 4.6 million members. As a police officer, you can join a recognised national scheme provided by our chosen administrator. Both of these schemes offer final salary, plus other benefits such as life cover or ill health benefits.
Maternity and paternity
As you’d expect from any major employer, all our staff are eligible for up to 52 weeks maternity leave. We also offer paternity and adoptive leave.
* As an operational police force which serves the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year, for some of our roles we may require you to work a varied shift pattern.
Where possible we aim to provide the above but each role is assessed individually
