Alcohol and Scrap Metal Licensing Officers

Derby city centre at night

Tackling alcohol-related harm is one of Derbyshire Constabulary’s top priority threat areas.

To assist our response to this issue, we have dedicated licensing teams across the force, managed locally, whose primary role is to reduce this type of anti-social and criminal activity so that the public can safely enjoy the vibrant nightlife that exists within Derbyshire.

To achieve this, the teams:

  • Review all applications for licensable activities and make representations on behalf of the Chief Constable where this is felt to be appropriate and necessary.
  • Work with the licensed trade and other stakeholders to promote best practice and provide support, advice and assistance where required.
  • Work with our partners to provide a joint response to licensing issues.
  • Assist our Safer Neighbourhood Teams in tackling alcohol-related issues.
  • Provide advice and support to our communities in relation to licensing issues.
  • Provide an operational licensing response at times of peak demand.

With the changes to the licensing arrangements for scrap metal dealers which took effect from October 2013, the teams are also now responsible for managing the police response to all scrap metal related licensing enquiries.
