Police take action to put the brakes on nuisance drivers in Wirksworth

Posted on 8th May 2014

Officers will be heading out on the road to crack down on speeding and nuisance drivers in the Wirksworth area.

The Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team have received reports from residents about young drivers causing disturbance around Ravenstor Road, Wood Street, Nether Gardens and the Co-operative store car park on Harrison Drive.

Problems include noise nuisance from groups of drivers gathering near homes and leaving their engines running and speeding vehicles on roads around the town.

The policing team will be carrying out increased patrols at key times to identify drivers causing the issue to speak to them about the importance of safe and considerate driving and abiding by the law on the roads.

PC Mathew Winterbottom from the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We will be working to identify the groups responsible to speak to them about their responsibilities when they are behind the wheel and how their behaviour can affect people living in the surrounding areas.

“We will be taking enforcement action where necessary and will be issuing warnings to deter the problem.”

This policing action comes ahead of a summer long campaign to combat anti-social behaviour and associated nuisance driving within the Wirksworth, Middleton and Cromford communities.
