Final SmartWater giveaway for Clowne residents

Posted on 6th February 2012

Residents in Clowne can pick up free property marking kits from their local police at the last in a series of giveaway days in the village.

Officers from the Clowne Safer Neighbourhood Team and Bolsover District Council will be handing out SmartWater packs on Saturday, February 18 and Sunday 19.

The team will be at the Community Centre, Recreation Close from 10am to 2pm on both days and there will also be refreshments and a bouncy castle.

The SmartWater kits have been  purchased under a partnership initiative co-ordinated by Clowne Parish Council and are being handed out to every household in the village by Derbyshire Constabulary and Bolsover District Council.

This is the final giveaway weekend as part of the initiative to have every home in the village protected by SmartWater. Hundreds of kits have been handed out during giveaways held since August last year.

Police Community Support Officer Suzanne Fox said: “Having your home protected by SmartWater is a huge deterrent for thieves.

“This may be the last chance for residents to collect their free kits so if you haven’t had one already make sure you come along.”

SmartWater is a liquid which is invisible to the naked eye but contains a unique code that can be identified under UV light.

It can be applied to property such as TVs, laptops and even cars to ensure that if it were stolen and recovered it can be returned to the owner.

Bolsover District Councils Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Councillor Brian Murray-Carr said, “These kits are free so I would urge any household who has not yet taken up our offer to do so now and give yourself better protection against thieves.

“By coding your valuables and displaying the SmartWater deterrent signs, you are sending out a powerful warning to any thieves and burglars operating in your area.”

To collect your free SmartWater kit you will need two utility bills to prove you are a Clowne resident and photo identification such as a passport or driving licence.
