Police in the villages of Glapwell and Doe Lea are working with countryside rangers and local refuse collectors to prevent shed burglaries in the area.
It follows a number of break-ins on outbuildings in the area where wheelie bins were used to transport the stolen items into nearby woodland.
Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood team have asked local binmen to look out for bins found in strange locations or that smell of diesel and to contact police if they find anything suspicious.
Derbyshire County Council’s countryside rangers are also carrying out patrols around local woodland trails to look for signs that thieves are taking stolen goods there.
Local officers have visited homes reminding people to be vigilant and security conscious at all times.
Homeowners were advised to fit good quality locks to out buildings and were given UV pens to mark property to deter thieves.
A Neighbourhood Watch scheme has also been set up in the area and residents have been signed up to Derbyshire Constabulary’s Community Messaging Scheme to help keep them informed.
