Appeal after hedge fires in Eckington
Posted on 26th September 2013
Police in Eckington are appealing for information after a number of fires in the area which may have been started deliberately.
Since the start of September there have been three reports of three fires affecting hedgerows and bushes in the area.
The latest incident took place at around 9.30pm on Sunday, September 22 on Highwood Place, Eckington.
No one has been injured in any of the incidents but officers are stepping up patrols and carrying out enquiries.
PC Niall Kendellen of the Eckington Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We’re working with the fire service to find out if these fires have been started deliberately and to catch those responsible, if appropriate.
“Both our team and response officers are also carrying out regular patrols to help deter this from happening and to offer reassurance to local residents.”
The team has also visited residents alongside the local Fire Prevention Officer from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to offer advice.
PC Kendellen added: “Fires can spread easily and put people’s safety at risk. I would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or has any information about this incident to contact us.”
Anyone with information should contact Derbyshire police on 101, the non emergency number, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
