Police issue advice following theft of mopeds and motorbikes in Derby East

Posted on 30th September 2013

Police in Derby East are reminding people to keep their mopeds and motor bikes locked up securely when out in public following a number of thefts in the neighbourhood.

The reminder comes after 19 thefts of mopeds and motorbikes have been reported since Saturday, June 1 to date, compared to nine for the same period last year.

Sgt Simon Hawley who manages the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Teams at Derby East said:” We are always encouraging members of the public to keep their property or possessions safe and securely locked up whether at home or out and about.

“When storing the moped or motorbike at home, try to keep it in a locked garage or shed. If that is not possible, then try to keep it around the back of your home, out of view.

“If it is your means to get to work or a prized possession please ensure it doesn’t become the property of an opportunist thief.”

Anyone with information about the theft of mopeds or motorbikes in the Alvaston, Boulton, Chellaston, Shelton Lock, Sinfin and Osmaston areas is asked to contact officers at Derby East Policing Section on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
