This Safer Neighbourhood area covers Codnor, Waingroves and Langley Mill. It belongs to the Amber Valley policing section.Codnor and Waingroves are situated between the market towns of Ripley and Heanor. They are former mining communities which are in a semi-rural location. Both the villages have grown in recent years through new housing; the population is now approximately 5000.Langley Mill has close social and economic links with Eastwood that lies less than a mile away over the county border in Nottinghamshire. It has good communication links with a railway station and road links to Nottingham and the M1.

  • Increased patrols to speak to young people and advise them about their behaviour, and how others may feel intimidated.
  • Seize alcohol from underage drinkers.
  • Remind shop staff to check for ID for anyone who looks under the age of 25 years.
  • Issue penalty notices to any adult caught buying alcohol for anyone under the age of 18.
  • Encourage young people to take part in alternative positive activities in the area.
  • Consider Acceptable Behaviour Contracts for persistent offenders.
