A man has been jailed for 16 weeks for assaulting a man and a woman in Chesterfield Town Centre, and for breaching a dispersal order.

Officers from the Chesterfield Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team were called to reports of anti-social behaviour on Knifesmithgate at 11.40am on Saturday, April 21.

A man was given a notice to leave the area under powers set out by the dispersal order.

At around 12.15pm there was a further report about anti-social and aggressive behaviour on Glumangate, and that two members of the public, a man and a woman, had been assaulted.

Our officers returned and found the man they had issued a dispersal notice to earlier had returned.

Ryan Spencer (42) of no fixed address was arrested and later charged with assault and breach of the dispersal order.

He pleaded guilty at the hearing at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Monday, April 23 and magistrates sentenced him to 16 weeks in prison for the offences.
