Officers in Chesterfield North hail local bus scheme as success

Posted on 11th June 2015

Safer Neighbourhood officers are working alongside local bus companies to provide reassurance for residents on the Chesterfield routes.

Officers from the Chesterfield North Safer Neighbourhood Team, which covers the Dunston, Moor and St Helen’s and Newbold and Brockwell areas, provide regular police liaison on buses as part of Operation Routemaster.

The initiative sees team members ride on buses throughout the areas and into Chesterfield Town Centre to chat to local residents and carry out high visibility patrols at peak times.

PCSO Janis Naylor from the Chesterfield North Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We have had very encouraging feedback from members of the public and bus staff about the operation and we are glad to be having a positive impact on people’s journeys and ensuring their safety whilst on board.

“We are undertaking the campaign at peak times including evenings to make sure a wide range of routes are covered. It has allowed us to meet members of our local community to say hello and be a friendly face to those on the buses.”
