Police clamp down on motorists in Chesterfield

Posted on 24th February 2015

Police in Chesterfield are clamping down on drivers who continue to ignore an access only sign following concerns from local residents.

Officers from the Chesterfield North Safer Neighbourhood Team are aiming to tackle parking issues along Shirland Street in Chesterfield.

The route is close to the town centre and Chesterfield College and can become increasingly busy with drivers parking there for quick access to local amenities.

PC Simon Duddles and PC Heather Saville issued 28 Traffic Offence Reports on Monday, February 16 to motorists who ignored the sign.

Sergeant Lee Jones from the Chesterfield North Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “Parking on this route has been an issue for many years and not surprisingly it’s causing distress for residents living there.

“There have also been issues with motorists parking in designated, well-marked disabled bays, preventing residents with disabilities from being able to park near to or access their homes.

“We’re working alongside the local community and the college to ensure we can tackle this issue and see an end to years of parking problems for residents.”
