Youngsters in the Poolsbrook and Duckmanton areas are invited to take part in two martial arts and fitness classes which are due to take place in June.
The first one will take place next week, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 2 at Poolsbrook Miners Welfare room.
There will be also be a session at Duckmanton Miners Welfare room between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Friday, June 23.
The sessions, which have been organised by the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team, paid for by local councillors and run by State of Mind Karate and Kickboxing, may also give young people a chance to take part in ‘Insanity’, a beginner’s version of the popular high intensity training programme.
PCSO Janis Naylor, of the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team, said: “We’ve set up some really popular activities in the Poolsbrook and Duckmanton areas for local young people, and I hope these will also be a success.
“Our aim is to offer a wide variety of activities, and so far this has included discos and karaoke sessions, karate, karting and Extreme Wheels sports and now there is the opportunity for young people to try out a martial art fitness program.”
To take part young people need to be at least eight years old, due to the equipment used, and not over the age of 16.
