PC Duddles and PCSO Naylor carry out speed checks
Officers from the Chesterfield North Safer Neighbourhood Team have been heading out in the community to monitor the speed of drivers in the area.
The Safer Neighbourhood Team covers the policing areas of Newbold and Brockwell, and Dunston, Moor and St Helens.
PC Simon Duddles and PCSO Janis Naylor teamed up on Tuesday, November 4 to carry out checks following reports from local residents of vehicles speeding around roads in their neighbourhood.
During the day, the Safer Neighbourhood officers carried out speed checks on 30mph roads around Dunston Lane, Loundsley Green Road and Newbold Road.
PCSO Janis Naylor from the local policing team said: “Abiding by the speed limit is vital in order to ensure safe and considerate driving on the roads.
“Carrying out speed checks such as this is one of the ways that we work to help keep roads safe for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
“Although the majority of road users abided by the speed limit, we did note a minority of motorists who were driving through the 30mph zone at speeds of 42mph and 44mph.
“Speed limits are there for a reason, to keep drivers, pedestrians and other road users safe, and we will continue to carry out high visibility speed checks to monitor this situation.”
The speed checks were carried out using laser speed guns that accurately record the speeds of passing motorists.
Warning letters are then issued to anyone caught speeding in the area and further action will be taken where necessary.
