Residents in Amber Valley and Chesterfield to have their say on policing priorities

Posted on 16th April 2015

Residents in Amber Valley and Chesterfield are being encouraged to voice their opinions on local policing priorities at upcoming events.

Safer Neighbourhood panel meetings give people the opportunity to set the policing agenda in their communities, to tackle crime concerns and help implement lasting solutions.

Officers from the Somercotes and Riddings Safer Neighbourhood Team are hosting a panel meeting on Tuesday, April 23 between 6pm and 7pm at the Somerlea Centre on Sherwood Street in Somercotes.

Current priorities for the area are speeding vehicles on Derby Road, criminal damage at the Broadway Estate in Swanwick, and anti-social behaviour at Parkside in Somercotes.

These issues were set as priorities following a Safer Neighbourhood meeting in January.

PCSO Sheila Rooksby and PCSO Claire Wikeley from the Whittington and Barrow Hill team will be on hand to meet local residents at a meeting at St Patrick’s Church Hall on High Street, New Whittington on Tuesday, April 28 between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

The current priority for this area is nuisance off road bikes along the canal between Staveley and Old Whittington, which was set following a meeting in January.

Officers have been working to carry out regular patrols both on bikes and on foot and speaking to those found to be causing a nuisance in the area.

They have also been issuing Section 59 warnings to riders who are seen using their bikes in a careless or inconsiderate manner and working in partnership with other agencies to help tackle the issue.

If you are unable to attend either of the meetings but would like to have your say, contact your local Safer Neighbourhood team on 101.
