This Safer Neighbourhood area covers Ashbourne. It belongs to the B South policing section. The historical market town of Ashbourne is situated at the gateway to Dovedale and the Peak District. It is famous throughout the world for its annual Shrovetide football match when the 'upards' play the 'downards'. It is played in the streets, fields and waterways, with each goal three miles apart. Thousands of people attend the event which is held over Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.

Anti-social behaviour at derelict buildings in Ashbourne

Issue was set on 16/06/2016
Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in hot spot areas to identify groups taking part in anti-social behaviour (ASB) and engage with them about the effects of their behaviour on people living nearby.
  • The Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team will be interacting with youngsters to deter them from ASB and to encourage them to take part in diversionary activities to prevent further nuisance behaviour.
  • Anyone who is caught taking part in nuisance behaviour will be advised about how their actions affect others and how it could lead to further involvement from police and partners.
  • Officers will be taking positive action against ASB in unoccupied buildings using new legislation involving civil law working with partner agents to work together to ensure buildings are secure.
  • Police will also be speaking to residents about the work that they are doing to offer reassurance in the community.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Officers will carry out ad-hoc speed enforcement in town centre and out-lying villages, working alongside the Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team (CREST) to reduce speeding.
  • Warning or fines will be issued to any driver who is found to be breaking the speed limit.
  • The Safer Neighbourhood team will also be heading out on patrol and speaking to motorists about the importance of sticking to the law on the roads and safe and considerate driving.

Preventing shed, garage and other outbuilding burglaries

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Officers carried out high visibility patrols and issued crime prevention advice to make homeowners aware of the steps they can take to prevent non-dwelling burglaries.
  • The team carried out a number of Operation Illuminate events to offer cut-price home security kits to help deter burglars and make their properties more secure.
  • Residents were actively encouraged to be vigilant and to report suspicious activity straight away on 101, 999 in an emergency, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
  • This priority profile was closed following the Safer Neighbourhood governance meeting in Autumn 2014.
