Ashbourne shoppers invited to shine the light on home security this Christmas

Posted on 4th December 2013

Officers will be heading to the late night shopping event in Ashbourne to dish out crime prevention advice and cut-price home security kits to passers-by.

The Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood team will be on hand to chat to residents and visitors about the simple steps that they can take to keep themselves safe this Christmas.

The team will be taking centre stage at the festive event from 7pm on Friday December 6.

Shoppers will be invited to purchase discounted security kits including timers, door chimes and drive-way alarms as part of the Operation Illuminate drive.

Sergeant Denis Murphy who leads the Safer Neighbourhood team for Ashbourne and surrounding areas said: “Events like this one are a great way for us to get out into the community and chat to residents and visitors about looking after themselves and their property while enjoying the festivities.

“We would like to invite everyone to come over to the stand to pick up free purse chains, Smartwater advice and discounted products to help protect their homes from opportunists.

“While the people of Ashbourne and surrounding area will be carefully perusing the glittering displays for Christmas presents, we will be on hand to offer safety advice and guidance.

“So come along and say hello!”

The policing team will be attending the public event which will provide live entertainment, fun rides and market stalls, as well as an opportunity for them to engage with the crowds of visitors.

Discounted home security products can also be picked up at local police stations and council offices with prices starting at just £1.
