Police and housing officers take to the streets for 'Through Your Eyes' event

Posted on 15th November 2013

Officers from Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team and Dales Housing staff are teaming up to chat to residents about neighbourhood issues in an upcoming ‘Through Your Eyes’ event.

The team will be heading out on the beat to listen to Dales Housing Tenants about any concerns that they may have, along with offering tips on how they can protect themselves from crime in the winter months.

The event aims to find out what issues tenants and residents have, to identify solutions that police and partners can work on together and find out what tenants think about the services they receive.

Officers will also be on hand to offer crime prevention advice and chat to residents about the simple steps that they can take to safeguard their homes from criminals as part of Operation Illuminate.

The Operation Illuminate drive, which is led by Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, sees police officers and council staff heading out into local communities to offer cut-price home security kits.

The Through Your Eyes team will be visiting Ashbourne throughout the day on Thursday, November 21.

Sergeant Denis Murphy, who leads the Safer Neighbourhood policing teams for the area said: ““The local policing team at Ashbourne is always looking for meaningful ways to meet the community so that concerns about local issues can be shared with us.

“It can be hard for some people to come to the police station and many are reluctant to call us because they may feel that their call is not of sufficient urgency or importance.

“I want to reassure people that we are interested in helping them and in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhoods.

“Events like “Through Your Eyes” means that we can stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners, meeting our communities together and look at joint ways of solving problems.”

Jacque Allen, executive director at Dales Housing, added: “Partnership working is a key part of what we do and these joint events with the local police are a great example of this.

“They really help to reassure tenants and residents and provide them with sound advice on crime prevention.”
