Posted on 19th November 2013

Officers from Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team headed out into the community as part of a nationwide drive to crack down on burglary.

Burglary week, which runs from Monday, November 18, sees officers across the force speaking to local residents about protecting their homes from opportunists and taking action to combat the crime.

PCSO’s Joanne Dales and Peter Jones took centre stage at an Ashbourne supermarket on Monday, November 18 to offer cut-price home security kits to shoppers as part of Operation Illuminate.

PCSO Dales and PCSO Jones head out to tackle burglary in Ashbourne

The team visited Sainsburys on King Edward Street to offer crime prevention advice and to chat to residents about further protecting their homes from criminals as the darker nights draw in.

PCSO Dales from the policing team said: “It is great to head out into the community and speak to passers-by about the simple steps that they can take to further safeguard their homes from criminals.

“Thieves are opportunists so investing in home security, such as using ‘dawn ‘til dusk’ bulbs, door chimes and shed alarms, will really help to deter a criminal.

“Events like this are a fantastic way for residents to purchase discounted home security kits to take action against criminals.”

Operation Illuminate, which is led by Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, sees police officers and council staff heading out into local communities to speak to people about crime prevention advice.

The team will be heading out into the rural communities of Ashbourne on Saturday, November 23 in response to a number of shed burglaries.

Times and locations are as follows:

  • Boylestone - 10:30am – 11:20am in the village hall car park
  •  Brocksford – 11:30am – 12:25pm in the stable area of Brocksford Hall
  • Doveridge – 12:30pm – 3pm outside the village hall.
