Youngsters at a secondary school in Ashbourne are set to learn about how to overcome difficult circumstances as a group of speakers take to the stage.
Derbyshire police have teamed up with Queens Elizabeth’s Grammar School to host the next Your Choice seminar which is set to take place on Tuesday, November 18.
The seminar will feature four individuals who have all faced extreme hardship in their lives.
The speakers include Simon Brown, Lucy Smith, Shaun Maguire and DR. Manny Barrot, who will tell their story to the pupils, including the choices that they have made and how those choices have had a huge impact on them, for better or worse.
The Your Choice event sees the speakers sharing their personal experience on sensitive issues including war, sexual exploitation, gangs and extreme violence.
The seminar focuses on showing the students how the decisions that they make have consequences and encouraging them to think carefully about their choices.
Officers from the Ashbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be on hand throughout the morning to offer advice and support to the students.
PC Sarah-Jayne Sims, who has organised the event, said: “It has been an honour to organise the fourth Your Choice event in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.
“These speakers are truly inspiring and their honest accounts seem to have a real impact on their audience. Their stories show courage, determination and no matter how bad a situation is it can be turned around.
“I am really looking forward to bringing this event to Queens Elizabeth’s Grammar School next week.”
