Derby man charged after van was stolen from Stoke-on-Trent

A man from Derby has appeared in court charged with theft of a van from Stoke-on-Trent.

Anthony Birks (27) of Tower Street, Derby, was charged with theft of motor vehicle, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He was due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle-Under-Lyme yesterday (Thursday, January 19).

Birks was arrested at around 10:20pm on Tuesday, January 17 after officers from our Roads Policing Unit stopped a van in Leapley Lane, Alkmonton.

Two further men, aged 19 and 24 and both from Derby, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle but were later released without charge.

The van, a white Ford Transit, was stolen from a driveway in Spey Drive in Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent sometime overnight between Monday 16 and Tuesday, January 17. When found the van was displaying registration plates that were stolen from another van in Church Lawton.
