Officers have been teaming up to mark the launch of Operation Illuminate which is set to be heading out on roads in Bakewell and surrounding villages.
Sergeant Andy Wordsworth and PCSO Hayley Grundy visited the Co-operative store on Market Street, Bakewell to offer cut-price home security kits to passing shoppers.
The Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team spoke to residents about the simple steps that they can take to protect themselves from crime as the darker nights draw in.
Shoppers were also invited to purchase discounted home security kits as part of the annual initiative, such as shed and garage alarms, timer switches, door chimes and property marking gear like SmartWater.
The event, that took place on Wednesday, October 1, marked the start of the Operation Illuminate events which are set to take place in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
The team will be heading out in the mobile police station and will be visiting:
- Tideswell on Tuesday, October 14 between 7pm and 9pm;
- Youlgrave on Tuesday, October 21 between 6pm and 8pm;
- Birchover on Wednesday, October 22 between 6pm and 8pm.
Operation Illuminate is an annual campaign by Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, which is led by police and Derbyshire Dales District Council.
It sees officers selling cut-price home security items to Dales residents from police stations and during visits out in the community.
The aim is to help people boost the security of their homes and outbuildings during the darker nights, when burglaries can increase.
