Free purse chains are being offered to shoppers in Bakewell to help them keep their valuables safe.
Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team have left purse theft prevention equipment, which includes purse chains and bells, for people to collect from charity shops across the town.
The equipment has been provided by the Safer Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, with funding from Derbyshire Dales District Council.
It is in response to an increase in reports in the towns in the area, and our teams in the Matlock and Ashbourne areas have already distributed a supply locally.
PCSO Ian Phipps, from the team, said: “We are working closely with local retailers and the Safer Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership to ensure shoppers enjoy their time in Bakewell while keeping their belongings safe.
“People will be able to pick up purse chains and bells from charity shops in the town and we’re also reminding people to keep purses out of sight and bags close to your person.”
The purse chains and bells will be at Age UK, Mind, Air Ambulance, Cancer Research and Ashgate Hospice charity shops in Bakewell.
