School is top of class after getting Smart with its high-tech security

A Derbyshire Dales school has earned top marks with police officers after having SmartWater installed.

Great Hucklow C of E Primary, in School Lane, asked for a kit to help protect it against burglary and vandalism.

SmartWater is a special UV fluid containing unique codes that can be read under microscope.

If an offender comes into contact with it, it sticks to their skin and clothes and can be used to link them to a crime scene using the unique SmartWater coding.

The kits can act as a deterrent and also help police reunite victims of crime with any belongings that are stolen and later recovered, as the codes reveal who the original owner is.

PC Ian Richardson and PCSO Anthony Boswell, from Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team, delivered the kit along with warning signs which will be put up at the school.

PC Richardson said: “SmartWater and similar products can be a great help in protecting goods and properties from crime.

“Not only are they a brilliant deterrent but they can also help us bring offenders to justice and get any stolen items back to their owners.

“It’s great that Great Hucklow school has joined the long list of places protected by this kind of security and I hope it encourages others to brush up on theirs, too.”
