Man arrested on suspicion of burglary during Operation Safedrive in Derby

Posted on 25th October 2016

A man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after a car he was driving was stopped by police in Derby.

On Thursday, October 20 officers carried out an Operation Safedrive event along Normanton Road in Derby when they stopped a man for using his mobile phone at the wheel.

During routine checks of his vehicle, police discovered that the registration plates displayed on the Mercedes E250 did not match the vehicle identification number. It is believed that the vehicle may have been stolen during a burglary in the summer.

Sometime during the day on Tuesday, July 19, thieves forced the window of a cottage on Old Lane in Cubley. A haul of items, including jewellery and electrical devices were stolen, along with a Grey Mercedes convertible and a Vito van.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and has since been bailed pending further police inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting occurrence number 16000200951.

To report a crime anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
