Two men from Somercotes have been charged with going equipped for theft after they were stopped by officers in Matlock Bath.

At around 10.20pm on Monday, November 28, officers were carrying out patrols along North Parade, Matlock Bath when they saw a Volkswagen Polo parked up in poor condition.

Officers spoke to the driver and the vehicle was seized due to illegal tyre treads and being in an unsafe condition.

Upon further inspection of the car, officers came across a lock pick set, car keys, tools and gloves.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and were later charged.

Andrew Mcguigan (36) of Thurston Avenue, Somercotes appeared at Chesterfield Justice Centre today (Wednesday, November 30). He has since been bailed and is set to reappear on Thursday, January 12.

Joshua Slater (21) of Peterway, Somercotes is due to appear Chesterfield Justice Centre on the same day.

Officers are urging residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police on 101 to help them to stop a crime from happening. Always dial 999 in an emergency.
