PCSO Phipps and pupils practice crossing the road safely

Pupils at a school in Baslow have been learning all about road safety thanks to a visit from their local PCSO.

PCSO Ian Phipps from the Tideswell, Litton, Baslow and Beeley Safer Neighbourhood Team visited Baslow St Anne's C of E Primary School to chat with youngsters about staying safe when out and about.

During the visit on Wednesday, June 10, PCSO Phipps spoke to the pupils about the rules of the road, staying safe when out on a bike or scooter, and also how to cross safely.

The children then went out to put their new skills into practice, before being awarded with their very own highway code, 'Tales of the Road' book.

He said: "Visits into schools such as this are really important and help us to build up a relationship with the children so that they feel comfortable in raising any issues with us in later life.

"Road safety is an important topic and it was great to see how all the children had listened and put their new skills into practice when out on the road. All in all, a fantastic morning."
