Crime prevention tour to shine a light on security for rural villagers in the Ashbourne area

Posted on 11th July 2017

Villagers living in the Ashbourne area are being offered discounted crime prevention materials and advice to help them keep their homes secure as Operation Illuminate takes to the road.

Residents in Kirk Ireton, Hulland Ward, Brailsford, Hollington, Shirley and Longford can get hold of reduced price items such as ‘dusk till dawn’ light bulbs, shed alarms and door chimes this week.

They will be available to buy from the mobile police station which is visiting each of the villages on Sunday, July 23.

The items are being provided by the Safer Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, which includes Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Dales District Council.

There will also be a chance for residents to speak to officers from their local Safer Neighbourhood policing team.

The team will be visiting:

  • Kirk Ireton: 10am-10.45am, outside the village shop
  • Hulland Ward: 11am-11.45am, close to the garage
  • Brailsford: 12noon-12.45pm, village hall car park
  • Hollington: 1pm-1.45pm, outside the village institute
  • Shirley: 2pm-2.45pm, outside the church
  • Longford: 3pm-3.45pm, outside the school

PCSO Jo Dales, of the Tissington and Carsington Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team which covers most of these villages, said: “Operation Illuminate has now been running for a few years and continues to be popular, with residents welcoming the opportunity to speak with local officers and take advantage of the items on offer to help them reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

“We look forward to seeing you at the events, even if you just want to simply meet your local officers and say hello.”

Derbyshire Dales District Council Leader Councillor Lewis Rose OBE, who is also Chairman of Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, said:  "While the Derbyshire Dales remains one of the safest places in the UK to live, work and visit, we refuse to be complacent.  As a partnership we believe in getting out into our communities to reinforce crime prevention advice that ensures local people stay safe in their own homes."

Discounted home security products are also available to buy from the Derbyshire Dales District Council Leisure Centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Wirksworth and the Arc Leisure at Matlock.

Further Operation Illuminate events are also are set to take place in other villages later in the year.
