Police appeal after sentimental items are stolen from pensioner's garden

Posted on 1st May 2013

Thieves stole a number of sentimental ornaments from the garden of a pensioner living in Cromford.

A hand-painted sleeping gnome, two duck statues, a small conifer tree and a bird bath with a solar powered light on top were among the items taken from the property, in Arkwright Gardens.

The owner, an 89-year-old man, reported the theft to police after noticing the items had gone on Thursday, April 4.

PCSO Sue Lester, from Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We are renewing our appeal for information and would like to hear from anyone who might have been offered these items or know the whereabouts of them.

“They are of high sentimental value to the gentleman and he is very distressed that they have been stolen and not yet returned.

“I’d urge anyone with information to call Derbyshire police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
