Officers urge people to act responsibly following online drinking game

Posted on 7th February 2014

Officers from Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team are urging people to act responsibility following a social media drinking game known as neck and nominate.

PC Mathew Winterbottom from the policing team said: “Drinking large quantities of alcohol in a short space of time can have very serious consequences and I would like to urge the public to act responsibly and not to take part.

“Not only are the people taking part putting themselves in unnecessary danger, they could also face prosecution as it is an offence to act disorderly in a public place.”

Police would like to remind the public that it is a criminal offence to purchase alcohol for anybody who is under the age of 18 years-old.

To contact the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team or to raise any issues or concerns call 101, the non-emergency number for Derbyshire police, or email matlock.neighbourhoods@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk.
