Officers monitor vehicle speeds in Wirksworth

Officers from Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team headed out in the community to monitor speeding traffic in the area.

PC Winterbottom and PCSO Lester teamed up on Friday, February 21 to check the speed of vehicles as they drove through roads in Wirksworth.

PC Mathew Winterbottom from the local policing team said: “Speed Watch events like these are a way of us to ensure safe and considerate driving in the area to help keep our roads safe for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

“During the morning of action it was fantastic to see that all vehicles went on without a problem by abiding to the set speed limits.

“No action was needed to tackle motorists exceeding the limit on the roads.”

The speed checks were carried out using laser speed guns that accurately record the speeds of passing motorists.

Warning letters are then issued to anyone caught speeding in the area and further action will be taken where necessary.
