New PC takes to the streets in Wirksworth and Middleton

Posted on 23rd January 2014

Local policing will be given a boost as the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team welcome a new member.

Mathew Winterbottom will be joining PCSO Sue Lester to patrol the area following the retirement of PC Doug Eyre earlier this month.

PC Winterbottom joined Derbyshire Constabulary in 2007 where he began his career as a response officer in Glossop for five years.

He has since moved to Buxton station where he has spent two years as part of the Operation Support Team before heading to Wirksworth and Middleton for community policing.

PC Winterbottom said: “I have really enjoyed my time serving in the police before I took on the role with the Safer Neighbourhood team, but I like the idea of taking on a new challenge and trying something different.

“I will be heading out on patrol and visiting local schools and residents so that I can get to know the community, and in turn, they can get to know me.

“I will be working hard to combat any neighbourhood concerns and I hope to see lots of new faces at the upcoming police surgeries.”

PC Winterbottom will be running a number of mobile beat surgeries throughout February and March to listen to the views of residents on local policing.

On Friday, February 7, Monday, February 17 and Monday, March 10, officers will be visiting Wirksworth market place from 6pm and Middleton community room from 7pm.

Residents will be given the opportunity to chat to the team on an informal basis and to raise any issues of concerns that they have for their neighbourhood.
