Community Speed Watch heads to Wirksworth and Middleton to tackle speeding motorists

Posted on 31st January 2014

Police will be monitoring the speed of drivers in Wirksworth and Middleton to take action against motorists exceeding the limit.

Officers from the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team will be holding Community Speed Watch events over the next few months to highlight the importance of safe and considerate driving on the roads.

The scheme will involve residents teaming up with local police to tackle speeding through their neighbourhood by using equipment which displays the speed of passing motorists.

The volunteers take down details of vehicles that are excessively speeding and the information is fed back to the local neighbourhood policing team so that warning letters can be issued to anyone caught speeding in the area.

Anyone interested in joining the Wirksworth and Middleton Community Speed Watch Scheme is asked to contact PC Winterbottom or PCSO Lester on 101.

Alternatively, email the team at: matlock.neighbourhoods@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk
