Motorists stopped as police combat speeding vehicles in Matlock

Posted on 7th April 2015

Officers from the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team have been taking to the roads to put the brakes on motorists speeding in the area.

Police have recently stopped a number of motorists to speak to them about their driving following reports of vehicles speeding along the A615 in Matlock.

PC Dan Mitchell from the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Speeding motorists are one of our policing priorities for the area and we are working hard to tackle this issue to improve the roads for local people.

“Speed limits are set for a reason and motorists who exceed this are not only breaking the law, but they are also putting theirs, their passengers and other road users lives at risk.

“After stopping the vehicles, we spoke to the motorists about the issue from our point of view when dealing with serious traffic accidents, including delivering messages to family members that their loved ones have been injured or even killed.

“Accidents caused through speeding and reckless driving are completely preventable and we will continue to take action against those responsible."

To speak to the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team call 101, the non-emergency number for Derbyshire police.
