A group of speakers will be taking centre stage at Buxton Community School to tell pupils about the importance of making the right decisions.
Derbyshire police has teamed up with the school for the next Your Choice seminar, which will feature four individuals who have all faced extreme hardship in their lives.
Those speakers – Simon Brown, Dorian Grey, Lucy Smith and Jasvinder Sanghera – will chat to pupils about the choices they have made, and how those choices have had a huge impact on them, for better or worse.
The idea of the seminar is to reduce the risk of youngsters becoming involved in criminality by showing them the dangers of making the wrong decisions in life. It will also teach them about the wide variety of support and advice that is available to them.
Your Choice, which takes place on the morning Thursday, October 10, focuses on a range of topics including forced marriage, sexual exploitation, anti-social behaviour, gangs and extremist violence.
Each of the four speakers has personal experience of one of those topics and will share intimate stories about that experience throughout the morning.
Inspector Shaun Woodcock, who helped organise the event, said: “Your Choice has always had a great response and the real stories from our four fantastic guests are extremely affecting.
“The wide variety of life experiences the speakers can share are very relevant to the young people of today and I’m sure the schoolchildren will take a lot from it.”
