PCSO Sophie Rost and PCSO Dave Murphy at Buxton Ageing Safely event
Safer Neighbourhood officers from Buxton have been teaming up with partner agencies in support of Ageing Safely Week.
The event, which was hosted on ‘UK Older People’s Day’, saw officers working alongside partnership agencies to offer specialist advice and support to visitors.
Representatives from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, the Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia Alliance, Age UK and the Handy Van attended the event alongside police.
PCSO Dave Murphy and PCSO Sophie Rost from the Buxton and Fairfield Safer Neighbourhood Team were on hand to offer crime prevention advice throughout the day on Wednesday, October 1.
The team spoke to visitors about the steps that they can take to further protect themselves from crime. This includes ensuring that windows and doors are properly secure before leaving the house or going to bed, along with storing valuables items, such as car and house keys, out of view.
PCSO Sophie Rost from the Fairfield Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “Events like this are a great opportunity for us to work alongside partner agencies to offer advice and support to residents in our community.
“The event was a chance for people to come along for a cup of tea and a chat and to ask any questions that they may have.
“Visitors were also able to pick up crime prevention advice around keeping safe while out and about, such as using a purse chain to attach your purse to your handbag as a way of deterring criminals.”
The event was hosted by the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service at the Buxton Community Fire Station on Wednesday, October 1.
