A Buxton PCSO has visited the Mighty Stars Group as they mark two years since launching their club in the town.
PCSO Alan Nield from the Buxton Town Safer Neighbourhood Team joined the group at their weekly get together on Wednesday, November 16 to see hear how the Mighty Stars Group has progressed since it first began in 2014.
Between September and November 2014 police received reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the town centre, including groups of young people causing problems at Spring Gardens.
The group of young people with disabilities were invited to the Buxton Police Station, alongside their care workers, to learn more about anti-social behaviour (ASB), the consequences of it, and how it can affect residents living in the local community.
Police and partner agencies discussed the further support that they could offer to the group, to give them somewhere to meet in a safe and sociable environment. This is where the Mighty Stars Group was formed, funded by police and partners including Buxton For Youth.
PCSO Alan Nield from the town’s Safer Neighbourhood team said: “It was a great evening to join the Mighty Stars Group. The club has gone from strength to strength over the past two years and I am really pleased with the progress.
"It is a really positive outcome from us working alongside our partners to deal with anti-social behaviour proactively. It is fantastic to see the improvement that this has made by supporting the young people and educating them further around issues such as ASB.
“Many of the young people now volunteer at the charity shops in Buxton to gain work experience, while others have found other forms of employment.
Alan continued: “The group meet every Wednesday at the 'Buxton for Youth' building where they can listen to music, play pool and even try their hand at cooking and baking. The group is keen to welcome new members to their social evenings.”
The Mighty Stars meet every Wednesday between 7pm and 9pm at the Buxton For Youth Building on Market Street, Buxton.
