Operation Cracker sees two people charged with theft

A man and a woman from Buxton have been charged with theft as police crackdown on shoplifting in the town.

Operation Cracker is a targeted initiative that sees officers carrying out increased patrols around Buxton over the festive season in a bid to deter thieves and catch shoplifters in the act.

Since the launch of the initiative on Monday, November 7, police have charged two people in connection with theft, resulting in one man serving a jail sentence.

Brian Spencer (43) of South Street, Buxton was arrested and charged in connection with theft from three stores in Buxton over the past month.

He appeared at the Chesterfield Justice Centre on Thursday, November 17 and was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison.

Zoe Byrne (41) of Spring Gardens, Buxton was arrested and charged with two counts of theft from the Co-operative Store on Spring Garden, and has since been bailed.
