Over 50 motorists clocked driving over the limit in police checks

Posted on 22nd February 2013

Police spotted a total of 55 drivers breaking the 30mph speed limit through the village of Chisworth during a Speedwatch event.

Officers from Gamesley and St Johns Safer Neighbourhood Team were joined by two local volunteers in Marple Road.

In total, 206 vehicles were clocked from 10am to 11am on Friday, February 15, with 48 doing between 31 and 35mph and seven doing 36mph and above.

PC Dave Collier carried out the Speedwatch alongside PCSO Anne Gribbon and the two volunteers.

He said: “Speed limits are there for a reason and although many drivers stuck to it, we still saw some speeding through that area.

“It only takes a second for an accident to happen and the dangers are much higher if you are speeding.”

Drivers clocked speeding will now be sent warning letters reminding them of the law and that they could face three points and/or a fine if they are caught again.
