Glossop motorists encouraged to get their security into gear at upcoming event

Posted on 21st October 2014

Glossop motorists are being invited to boost their vehicle security as part of a multi-agency event being hosted in the town.

Throughout the month, Safer Neighbourhood teams across the county will be offering security advice to help residents to better protect their vehicles from being targeted by thieves.

As part of the initiative, police and partners will be teaming up to host a car crime prevention day.

The event is set to take place at the Wren’s Nest Retail Park on High Street East, Glossop on Thursday, October 30. The event will run between 10am and 2pm.

Throughout the day, the team will be offering advice around road safety and the steps that motorists can take to help deter passing criminals.

Officers from the Glossop Safer Neighbourhood Team will be working alongside their colleagues from the Roads Policing Unit and will also be joined by representatives from the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Residents are being invited to come along and chat to the team about any concerns that they may have for their community, along with picking up advice from police and partner agencies.

Advice includes ensuring that Sat-Navs and their cradles are removed, along with wiping away any ‘sucker’ marks. Park in well-lit, overlooked areas where possible and consider using a steering lock, alarm or tracking device for added security.

If you spot anyone acting suspiciously around parked and unattended vehicles, call police straight away on 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.

For more information about the event or to speak to your local Safer Neighbourhood policing team call 101, the non-emergency number for Derbyshire police.
