Special Constabulary officers take to the road for drink drive aware operation in Glossop

Posted on 13th December 2016

Officers from the Special Constabulary have been taking to the road to crackdown on drivers who get behind the wheel while under the influence of drink in Glossop.

Throughout the evening on Friday, December 9, Special Sergeants Steven Pritchard, Kevin Harrell, Steven Bamford and John Saddlington, were joined by Special Constables Mathew Rudder and Robert Hawkins to carry out a drink drive aware operation in Glossop.

The team carried out checks in the town to help raise awareness of the potentially devastating effects of drink-or-drug-driving, especially over the festive season when people are out celebrating.

During the evening a total of 45 motorists were breathalysed at the roadside, all testing negative for traces of alcohol.

Alongside the breath tests, the team offered advice to motorists regarding vehicle defects, along with issuing a cannabis warning and two speeding tickets to motorists who exceeded the speed limit.

Officers from the Special Constabulary will be carrying out similar operations in Buxton, Matlock, and Chesterfield throughout December to help to increase safety on Derbyshire roads.
