Report of boy approached in Eckington not believed to be suspicious

Posted on 9th March 2018

Officers investigating reports of a child being approached in Eckington are offer further reassurance to the public after speaking to the man and the boy involved.

We were called about an incident where a boy, who had been walking near to the One Stop store on West Street, was approached and his arm grabbed at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, March 6.

The man came forward having seen the appeal on Facebook, and we have spoken to the boy and other witnesses.

It appears he misread what the youngsters had been doing, and thought they had been arguing so wanted to help.

This is not connected to a similar incident reported near to John Flamsteed School, in Denby, on Thursday, March 8.

Officers are continuing to make enquiries into reports of a girl who was approached near to the One Stop shop on Derby Road at around 8.30am, and would like to thank those who have got in touch with information so far.

If you do have any information about the incident in Denby please call PC Matt Moore on 101, quoting incident number 169 of 8 March, or send him a message online through the Contact Us page of the website by clicking here.
