This Safer Neighbourhood area covers Holmewood, Grassmoor, Calow and Arkwright. It belongs to the Clay Cross and North East policing section. Holmewood is an adjacent but distinct settlement situated close to Junction 29 of the M1 motorway. The proximity to the motorway has led to substantial industrial and distribution development on industrial estates adjacent to Holmewood.Grassmoor is a small village, approximately three miles to the south of Chesterfield, while Calow and Arkwright (often referred to as Arkwright Town despite its non-town status) are also small villages in the vacinity.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Safer Neighbourhood Officers will work to carry out speed checks in the local areas in order to take positive action against motorists who are caught speeding.
  • The team will work closely with the local schools and other agencies to raise awareness of the consequences of speeding to motorists.

Anti-social behaviour in hot spot areas

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Anti-social behaviour problem hot spots have been identified as the back of Holmewood Library including the multipurpose sports area and Grassmoor Skate Park.
  • Safer Neighbourhood Officers will monitor ASB incidents and identify key issues.
  • Problem areas will be regularly patrolled by officers at key times to positively deal with any issues.
  • Individuals who cause ASB will be identified and dealt with in a positive manner.
  • Safer Neighbourhood Officers will also work with other agencies such as Rykneld Homes and the youth provision to address and deal with ASB perpetrators positively

  • Increased patrols in the area to deter offenders.
  • Worked with local residents and schools to educate people and identify those responsible.
  • Issued warnings and seized bikes from persistent offenders as necessary.

  • Regular patrols at and around Dean Foods to deter further metal thefts
  • Carry out regular checks at local scrap yards for stolen items.
  • Work with partner agencies such as VOSA and Environmental Health to check vehicles being used to transport scrap metal.

  • Liaised with the residents to find out who is causing the nuisance so we can speak to them about the consequences of their behaviour.
  • Organised activities for the young people to take part in to prevent them from becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.
  • Police patrols at key times, alcohol seized and further action against those causing nuisance as appropiate.

  • Liaise with local residents to find out key times for these activities and encourage them to report any incidents.
  • Identify any persistent trouble makers, advise them about the consequences of their behaviour and consider further action with partner agencies..

Issue was set on 26/11/2014
Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • The team carried out patrols around the Holmewood Industrial Estate and spoke to local business owners to offer crime prevention advice and reassurance following commercial thefts.
  • Officers engaged with HGV drivers who park on Park Road about the importance of safe and considerate driving and monitored litter in the area.
  • The team worked alongside partner agencies to tackle issues of problem parking and litter around the estate.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Safer Neighbourhood officers carried out high-visibility patrols in the area to help deter anti-social behaviour.
  • Officers spoke to youngsters about their behaviour and the affect that it has on library users and staff in a bid to lower nuisance behaviour.
  • The team worked alongside partner agencies to offer and provide divisionary activities for youngsters in the Holmewood and Heath communities.
