Summer of activities set up for Pilsley youngsters

Posted on 7th August 2014

A series of summer activities are being put on for youngsters in Pilsley to take part in during the school holidays.

The local Safer Neighbourhood policing team has been working with Derbyshire Village Games, Rykneld Homes and St. Mary’s Church at Pilsley to put on the timetable which takes place until Thursday, September 4.

The activities, which happen on Tuesdays and Thursdays, include sports activities, cinema and bowling trips and cooking and crafts which have been put on for free or for just £1.

A fun and film afternoon, multi-sports event, bike adventure and sports day have already taken place during the first two weeks of the programme.

PCSO Laura McLuckie of the North Wingfield, Pilsley, Stonebroom and Shirland Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team has been helping to organise the sessions.

She said: "We’ve put on a wide range of activities and trips for young people in Pilsley over the summer holidays and so far we’ve had more than 40 take part, and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.

“The activities will help provide youngsters with something to do during the holidays and we’ve received praise from local parents who have told us that it’s great to have something for their children to take part in.”
