Officers on the Shirebrook Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team have welcomed back a former police support volunteer as a new Special Constable.
Adrian Portianow, 20, graduated in the volunteer role during a special attestation ceremony last week.
Before becoming a Special Constable, Adrian gave up his free time to help the Shirebrook Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team bridge the gap with harder to reach communities, and help officers to communicate with people who have not spoken English as their first language.
As well as volunteering as a Special Constable, Adrian is studying for a degree in crime and criminology, and speaks English, Polish, Czech and Slovakian.
His first shift as a Special Constable took place on Wednesday, July 12 and during that time he arrested a 24 year old man from Shirebrook who had failed to appear at court in June.
