Tackling deliberate fires in the Shirebrook area

Issue was set on 22/01/2016
Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • The team will be carrying out high visibility patrols to deter the behaviour and also covert patrols to catch offenders.
  • Officers will be working closely with Bolsover District Council and the fire service to ensure a unified approach and to share any information on offenders.
  • The team will also be liaising with local schools and speaking to youngsters about the dangers of starting fires deliberately.

Anti-social behaviour in Shirebrook

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • The Shirebrook Safer Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out increased patrols to help to deter anti-social behaviour (ASB) caused by small group of youths in the evening.
  • Officers will be attending local schools to educate the pupils about anti-social behaviour and the affect that it may have on others to deter future incidents.
  • Individuals who are found to be acting in an anti-social manner will be given words of advice and warning letters will be issued where appropriate.
  • The team will be working with partner agencies to consider setting up alternative activities for youngsters in the area.

  • A number of residents raised concerns about the growing number of unofficial houses with multiple occupancies in the town.
  • The Safer Neighbourhood team will be heading out into the community to identify these properties and will be teaming up with partner agencies to offer advice and support. This will include environmental health and the fire service.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Increased patrols carried out to deter the problem and arrest offenders.
  • Liaised with the residents to gather information on who is causing the problems and reassure the community we are taking action to put a stop to it.
  • Worked with Bolsover District Council and the CAN Rangers to ensure a unified approach and share any information on offenders.

  • Increased visibility patrols were carried out on the market place on market days, Shirebrook town centre and the Model Village.
  • Enforcement of the Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) was used which bans people from drinking alcohol in public, at the rear of Patchwork Row.
  • Officers carried out patrols of the footpath to the rear of Sookholm Road in relation to damage, littering and suspicious activity.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Officers carried out patrols at key times to ensure that no alcohol was being consumed by young people in the area and that any anti-social behaviour was deterred.
  • The team spoke to young people about drinking underage and the affect that it may have on their health and personal safety.
  • Test purchase operations were carried out by police and Trading Standards to ensure that shop and pub staff operated by the Challenge 25 protocol.

I am Sergeant 1611 Mark Church and I have responsibility for this Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team.

I have been a police officer since 1994, and was promoted to a Sergeant in 2000. I've worked mostly on the response teams throughout the area, helping me to understand the problems that affect our local communities, and became a Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant in 2013. My priorities are to engage and to listen to your concerns and target issues that are important in making sure your local area is a safe and pleasant place to live, work and visit.
