Chesterfield and District Neighbourhood Watch have been awarded a quality mark from the Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire Volunteer Centre.

The Volunteer Strategy Group (VSG) Quality Accreditation has been given to the group to recognise the commitment they have to supporting volunteering, and is valid for three years.

Joye Dobbs, Project and Development Officer for Neighbourhood Watch across Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Amber Valley, Derbyshire Dales and the High Peak, said: “This is the equivalent to a local ‘kite mark’ for the voluntary sector and shows we are willing to put our volunteers first and foremost when considering our policies and procedures.

“We’re proud to pick up this accreditation and I hope it will give us an advantage when recruiting volunteers and seeking funding.”

Derek Weston, chairman of Chesterfield and District Neighbourhood Watch said: “I am delighted that we have received this recognition. It will give us added credibility, especially when seeking grant awards.

“The Volunteer Strategy Group, in granting this quality mark, has acknowledged out contribution to the voluntary sector. In particular it demonstrates the hard work put in by Joy, our Project and Development officer. It also shows that we are a worthy partner to our police colleagues.”

Inspector Rob Bowns, who oversees communities and vulnerability for Derbyshire police in North Division, said: “The award recognises the hard work, dedication and commitment of Joye Hobbs with the support and guidance of Derek Weston to develop and progress Neighbourhood Watch throughout north Derbyshire.

“Neighbourhood Watch is a vital element in helping us to prevent and reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. Members of the scheme are key community members who want to work with us to keep their area safe and improve the quality of life for other people within their communities.”

The Chesterfield VSG Quality Mark has been developed by the Volunteering Strategy Group, a sub group of the Chesterfield Health and Wellbeing Partnership.
