This Safer Neighbourhood area covers Wingerworth and expands to include much of old Unstone. It belongs to the Clay Cross and North East policing section. Wingerworth is a small to medium sized residential village situated on the outskirts of Chesterfield, a short distance from the A61 road where the majority of residents travel to work and socialise. The main focal point of the village is a small shopping centre and an area of open parkland.

Issue was set on 05/09/2017
Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Regular speed checks will be carried out and warnings or fines will be issued to anyone breaking the limit.
  • The Safer Neighbourhood team will be heading out on patrol and speaking to motorists about the importance of sticking to the law on the roads and safe and considerate driving.
  • Officers will be teaming up with members of the public to carry out Community Speed Watch events in the area to target those exceeding the limit.

  • Often the cause of anti-social behaviour around a particular area, by targeting those dealing drugs we aim to disrupt the problems related to these.

Actions to be taken are as follows:
  • Increased patrols were carried out at relevant times to deter the behaviour and speak to those involved about the consequences.
  • The team worked with other parts of the force on Operation Caulke to try to eradicate the problem here and in other areas of the county.
  • Officers worked with local Forestry Commission workers to ensure a joint approach was taken and information about the problem was shared.

  • Liaised with the NFU and locally Ashover Young Farmers to set up a Farmwatch scheme in the area.
  • Met regularly to discuss rural crime issues and preventative measures farmers can take.
  • Worked alongside farmers to ensure they are sharing information with police and each other about local issues.

  • The team spoke with primary schools in Wingerworth to discuss traffic issues around the schools pick up and drop off times.
  • Officers worked closely with the school and carried out patrols during school run times.
  • A road safety campaign was implemented following agreement from the schools.
  • A Community Speed Watch initiative was ran involving local councillors and residents.
