Pride Park Cycle Marking

Our officers have been working with businesses on Pride Park, Derby to offer cycle marking for their staff.

The move comes after a recent spree of thefts of bikes in the area that saw the offender being jailed for his crimes.

A few weeks ago we released the attached body worn video recording of one of our PCSOs, Jim Sadler, chasing a cycle thief through pride park.

The man was arrested and subsequently sent to prison for 18 weeks for a number of thefts across the city.

After the incident Jim has been visiting businesses on Pride Park and offering their staff free cycle security marking to try and help prevent further thefts.

Yesterday, Monday, October 1 and today, Tuesday, October 2 he has been at the Mortgage Advice Bureau and Rolls Royce.

PCSO Sadler, from the Alvaston Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Whilst the arrest and detention of the thief was good news it is also important for people to take precautions against cycle theft.

“Bike marking is important as it acts as a deterrent and makes it easier for the bike to be found, returned to its rightful owner and helps us to secure prosecutions against the thieves.

“We are also advising owners to invest in a good quality bike lock.”

Further events are planned in the near future along with an open, public event.

For more details of these events or if you are a business owner on Pride Park that would like to offer this to their staff please contact Jim using one of the following non-emergency contact methods:
